Do You Feel Like a Slave to Money? Paul Did Not.

The greatest missionary of the early church made tents for a living. He knew how to live with much and how to live with little. And he walked in freedom the whole time.

You did not receive a spirit of slavery. You received the Spirit of Adoption. This is the difference between fear and freedom.

Do you feel like a slave to money? Like it owns you instead of you owning it? Like every decision runs through fear before it runs through faith?

Paul did not. And Paul made tents for a living. (Watch Paul)

The man who wrote most of the New Testament worked a trade with his hands. He knew how to live with much. He learned how to live with little. He stewarded every resource God gave him. And through all of it, he walked free.

Two Spirits · Two Ways to Live

The Anchor

Slavery or Adoption. You are living in one of them right now.

"For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!'"

Romans 8:15 (ESV)

The spirit of slavery shows up as fear. Shame. Scarcity. Guilt. It shows up even when money comes in, because the problem was never the balance in the account. The problem was the spirit behind the eyes reading it. (Watch Spirit Behind Money Struggles)

The Spirit of Adoption shows up as peace. Confidence. Abundance. Gratitude. In every season, whether the account is full or thin. Not because a son ignores the numbers. Because a son knows the Father who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.

Spirit of Slavery

Fear. Shame. Scarcity. Guilt. Even when money comes in.

Spirit of Adoption

Peace. Confidence. Abundance. Gratitude. In every season.

The Model

Content With Much. Content With Little. No Fear. Only Father.

Paul stitched tents in Corinth next to Aquila and Priscilla. Same trade. Same faith. God orchestrated that meeting, and the gospel spread through the same hands that worked leather at midnight. Paul carried no fear about money, because he had conquered the spirit of slavery and let the Spirit of Adoption live in him.

"I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound... I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

Philippians 4:12-13 (ESV)

"You are not a slave. You are a son. You are a daughter."

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

"So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

Galatians 4:7 (ESV)

A Question for You

Which spirit are you walking in right now? Name it honestly. You did not receive slavery. You received adoption. It is time to come home to the Father who calls you heir.

A Prayer Over Your Home

Father, break the spirit of slavery over this home. Every fear around money, every shame, every scarcity that has read the account and forgotten the Father. Replace it with the Spirit of Adoption. Teach us to be content with much and content with little, like Paul, free the whole way through. We cry Abba, Father. In Jesus name. Amen.
